OUR STORY

Our Commitment

Harrison's Heroes delivers hundreds of care packages to brighten kids days at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Shriners Hospital for Children.  We make sure that the patients are not forgotten on holidays, such as Easter and Thanksgiving.  We also sponsor onsite parties that include magicians, face painters, photo booths, and more of the things kids love.

Harrison’s Heroes was founded in loving memory of Harrison Kothari.  At age 2 he was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst, a congenital condition that caused fluid pockets to develop on his brain.  Harrison was just shy of his 2nd birthday and underwent brain surgery that fall. He spent the next three months in and out of the hospital.

Harrison passed away on December 1, 2010 at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital from an infection unrelated to his surgery. Prior to his passing, he spent over 30 consecutive days in the hospital with his parents taking shifts to be by his side 24/7. Not all children in hospitals have parents that are able to do so.

Hospitalization can cause a tremendous amount of stress on a child who has to grapple with being separated from their parents, change in routine, restricted movement, trust issues and a host of other disruptions.  The strains on families who are dealing with the urgent needs of caring for a hospitalized child are momentous.

Organizations helping these children and their families are overwhelmed and underfunded. Harrison’s Heroes strives to help the families of young children challenged with long-term hospital stays.

Going Forward

Harrison’s Heroes plans to continue to support sick children experiencing long-term stays in Houston and we hope to grow to other major US cities.
